The Department of Computer Science, Karnatak Science College, Dharwad, was established in the year 1998 with BCA, and B.Sc (CS) was started in the year 2001, to provide quality education at very low cost to the student. Due to the implementation of NEP-2020, KUD has closed down the B.Sc (CS) course with effect from 2021-22. The Department of Computer Science (Professional Courses) has registered speedy progress. It possesses adequate infrastructure, computing facilities, well-equipped laboratories to meet the curriculum requirements. In a very short span of its existence, the Department has earned the reputation as one of the best learning centers in Karnataka. Functioning of all the academic activities are taking place in a new magnificent building of its own. The Department gives thrust and encourages students to demonstrate creative talents based on realistic approaches. An all-round development of student is aimed at with emphasis on the computer applications.
Observing the emergence of computer science as the new discipline and looking at the explosive growth in the field of information science and technology, the Department introduced a new course leading to B.Sc.(Computer Science) in the year 2001-02. This course was designed and developed to meet the need for human resource in the area of information technology and informatics. Due to the implementation of NEP-2020, KUD has closed down the B.Sc (CS) course with effect from 2021-22, as it was felt that taking Computer Science as a MAJOR subject and either Electronics or Mathematics as a MINOR subject becomes equivalent to the B.Sc. (CS) course. This course provided an opportunities for advanced studies. All round development of students is aimed at with emphasis on the computer applications, projects, practical training and seminars. Students are given enough scope to develop innovative ideas and creative thinking. The department is currently headed by Lt. Rajshekhar.V. Baraker
