History: The Department of Microbiology was established in the year 1997 exclusively to offer “Microbiology” as one of the optional subjects for the B.Sc. Degree offered under the Biological Sciences Stream. It is the sister Department of Zoology, Karnatak Science College, Dharwad. Vision: Upgradation of existing teaching and research activities in order to keep pace with the global scientific progress in the field of Microbiology, and to meet the welfare of society.

Mission: The development of academic processes to enhance scientific research through strategic planning and a clear vision for Science and Technology at the National level, to introduce a methodology developed to meet the different needs of society, and to serve the scientific community by implementing various research projects.

Objectives: Through the three-year undergraduate (B.Sc.) course with Microbilogy as one of the optional subjects, the Department is committed to provide transformative education through the following elements:

  • The Department is dedicated in providing the quality education, through both lectures and practical sessions, which are necessary to meet the needs of the growing field of Microbiology.
  • Fundamental research training for undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral students who will become future leaders in science, medicine, agriculture, and industry.
  • The syllabus (CBCS and NEP) covers a wide portfolio of Microbiology courses at the undergraduate level. It is a Centre of expertise for numerous aspects of fundamentals of Microbiology and its applications.
  • Research that advances the frontiers of knowledge in the field of microbiology.
