The Department of Statistics was established in 1961, with a modest faculty. Over the last 59 years, the department has grown into a major center for teaching and learning Statistics, both Science and Social Science courses. The optional subjects taught are “Mathematical Statistics” for the B.Sc. Course, “Applied Statistics”, “Elements of Mathematics and Statistics” for the B.A. course and “Business Statistics” for the B.Com. course. For B.Sc. Students, they can opt for Statistics as one of the optional subjects along with Physics and Mathematics (PMS combination) or with Mathematics and Computer Science (SMCs combination) or Chemistry and Mathematics (CsMS combination).There are four highly qualified permanent teaching staff members in the Department of Statistics.
